Conditions of Release
Reaching preservation age alone doesn't automatically unlock your super. You must also meet a condition of release:
Full Access (Unrestricted)
- • Reach age 65 (regardless of work status)
- • Reach preservation age AND permanently retire
- • Terminate employment after age 60
- • Terminal medical condition
- • Permanent incapacity
Transition to Retirement (TTR)
- • Available from preservation age
- • Allows 4-10% of super as income per year
- • Can continue working
- • Super continues to grow
- • Great for reducing work hours gradually
Age Pension Eligibility
The Age Pension qualifying age is 67 for those born on or after 1 January 1957.
Residency Requirements
- • Australian resident at time of claim
- • 10 years continuous Australian residency, OR
- • 10 years total with 5 years continuous
Means Testing
- • Income test: Payment reduces above thresholds
- • Assets test: Payment reduces with higher assets
- • Full pension requires modest income/assets
